You gotta love Marilyn Mason, he comes out with some of the most fucked up shit I have ever seen. So it’s a little surprising that Hollywood golden boy Shia LaBeouf is equally fucked up, having directed Manson’s short film for his new album, Born Villain.

Born Villain is a short film directed by actor Shia LaBeouf in collaboration with Marilyn Manson. It was released on August 28, 2011, during its inaugural screening, at the L.A. Silent Theater. Produced as an accompaniment to Marilyn Manson’s eighth studio album, the film was intended as the record’s promotional “trailer”.

This is a hilarious mashup of the Emperor and Darth Vader in the Return of the Jedi, dubbed by Beavis and Butthead.

And never have truer words been uttered – “This sucks more than anything that has ever sucked before. What a dork!”

Jurassic Park is heading back to cinemas this September in the UK – sorry rest of the world. Not only do we get the chance to see one Spielberg’s finest movies back on the big screen, Jurassic Park is being re-released in a brand new digital print. So why re-release it? Well the whole Jurassic Park trilogy is being released on Blu-ray for the first time in October.

Sylvester McCoy, who portrayed the seventh Doctor, was asked to read one of the newer scripts to come out of the classic British TV show Doctor Who. McCoy’s Doctor. The reading at the request of a Dragon*Con 2011 panel moderator, who wanted to dispel the idea that McCoy was a bad doctor by giving him some good dialogue. McCoy was given Matt Smith’s The Pandorica Opens speech, which he brings to life superbly.

Taken/leaked from the Thor Blu-ray/DVD special features, The Road to the Avengers has Joss Whedon talking about the ultimate comic book movie. The feature recaps all of the characters that will feature in The Avengers, though without featuring actual footage.

We all know who the true hero of the Harry Potter series is and so does How It Should Have Ended, in this brilliant parody.

German film Hell, written and directed by Tim Fehlbaum, is about a post apocalytic future where the Sun has scorched the Earth into a wasteland. Produced by Roland Emmerich, director of disaster movies 2012, The Day After Tomorrow and Independence Day, Hell is set to open in Germany in September. Release dates for other countries have not been announced yet.

The trailer and premise is very intriguing and I love foreign sci-fi movies. This should be one to watch out for.

Even the nights are dazzlingly bright. Maria, her little sister Leonie and Phillip are heading for the mountains in a car with tinted glass. Rumour has it water can still be found there. It is a hazardous trip to nowhere. Along the way, they run into Tom. He turns out to be a first-rate mechanic and becomes indispensable. But can they trust him? The tension grows. As if things weren’t bad enough, they are lured into an ambush and their real battle for survival begins…

I’ve enjoyed all of the films to date and I loved how all the British actors kept coming back to the franchise. I’m really looking forward to seeing Selene return and kicking butt.

Teaser trailer for Ryan Murphy’s and Brad Falchuk’s American Horror Story. Premièring in the US on FX 5th October, by all accounts, this’ll be the scariest show on TV.

American Horror Story revolves around The Harmons, a family of three who move from Boston to Los Angeles as a means to reconcile past anguish. The All Star cast features Dylan McDermott (The Practice) as “Ben Harmon,” a psychiatrist; Connie Britton (Friday Night Lights) as “Vivien Harmon,” Ben’s wife; Taissa Farmiga as “Violet,” the Harmon’s teenage daughter; Jessica Lange (Tootsie, Blue Sky, Grey Gardens) in her first-ever regular series TV role as “Constance,” the Harmon’s neighbour; Evan Peters (One Tree Hill) as “Tate Langdon,” one of Ben’s patients; and Denis O’Hare (The Good Wife) as “Larry Harvey.” Guest stars for the series include Frances Conroy (Six Feet Under) and Alexandra Breckenridge (Dirt) as the Harmon’s housekeepers; and Jamie Brewer as Constance’s daughter.

I had hoped to post these Mortal Kombat: Legacy webisodes as they were released, but never got to it. Still, if you haven’t seen them yet – and why not? – they’re all here on one handy page.

Perhaps Michael Fassbender didn’t like the idea of appearing in drag? Never mind, you can see what all the fuss is about before X-Men: First Class hits the shelves.

It’s amazing what technology allows us to do these days. Take the Doctor Who Fan Orchestra. Made up of 35 musicians who recorded their sections separately, and then combined it to recreate Murray Gold’s Doctor Who score “I Am The Doctor”. All things considered, it’s brilliant.

The Doctor Who Fan Orchestra invited musical fans of Doctor Who to take part in an online collaborative celebration of Murray Gold’s music. Participants submitted recordings from late Spring through to early Summer.

Brilliant mashup of Troll Hunter and The Empire Strikes Back, created by visual effects artist Rune Spaans who worked on Troll Hunter.

One of the creatures in The Troll Hunter is missing an arm. When I first saw that, I knew I had to make this Empire tribute! What I’ve done is to take the scene from Empire Strikes Back, erase the existing characters, and then animate and re-composite the characters from Troll Hunter into the Empire footage. It’s a pretty complex animation job, and it took me around three weeks of spare time to finish.

Troll Hunter is set to be released in the UK on 9th September 2011.

Norway is known for its breathtaking fjords, savage Vikings and Norse mythology. While millions have witnessed the grandeur of Norway’s inlets, and we only need to visit York to learn about the very real history of the Viking hordes, Norse mythology has, for the last few hundred years, been considered little more than just the elaborate fiction of a dead religion. In recent years, however, evidence has been slowly accumulating to suggest that parts of the Norse narrative could very well have taken place.

The jotnar were giant creatures of immense strength and power. Ymir was the first, and his offspring populated the ‘mythical’ land known as Niflheim – described as a land of mist and ice, easily attributed to any of Norway’s expansive glaciers. These earthly beings fought the Norse gods, with huge massacres taking place. The mythology goes on to say that during a time of peace the jotnar and the gods married and interbred, before falling out again. The early creatures could not take exposure to sunlight, and would turn to stone at the slightest ray, but with the blood of the gods their tolerance grew, and could soon only be vanquished by a bolt of lightning – something the gods held dominion over. Legend has it that the jotnar, or trolls as they have come to be known, became extinct as the gods became more frequent and accurate with their lightning, but evidence has come to light that some think proves that trolls still occupy the deepest forests and widest tundra of Norway.

Norway has a secret, and has gone to extreme lengths to conceal it. Norway gained its independence from Sweden on 1905, and lost it again to the Germans in WWII barely 35 years later. When the Nazi occupation ended and the threat of Soviet communism reared its ugly head, the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation rallied the free world to unite against the reds. Norway shares a border with what was then the USSR and now Russia, so one would think that it would welcome NATO and a show of force great enough to keep the iron curtain from rising. The contrary was true. During the Cold War Norway did accept NATO as a guardian, but laid down very strict rules. The rules we are most interested in here are 1: No foreign troops on Norwegian soil during peace time, 2: No allied manoeuvres in the county of Finnmark, and 3: No allied air or navy manoeuvres east of 24 degrees east.

Let’s break these rules down and discover why troll conspiracy theorists believe they were put in place: 1: Foreign troops in Norway would have access to the vast open uninhabited swathes of land, high mountains and dense forests that traditionally separate the trolls’ land of ‘Midgard’ from the human world. While it is relatively easy to keep curious individuals away with stories of animal attacks and hostile terrain, a military force would have no problem venturing into troll territory, and subsequently encountering Norway’s dark secret. The second and third rules in place restrict all manoeuvres in Finnmark specifically, but also all of Norway east of the line of latitude at 24 degrees east, which takes in all of Finnmark, some coastal regions and the border with the (then) USSR. You may ask what is so special about Finnmark? The map below was obtained from a Norwegian government source who wishes to remain anonymous. The source has marked an area on the map as home to a particularly giant species of troll. Is this why Norwegian Cold War foreign policy was so adamant that the area be left untouched?

During the Cold War, the USSR performed nuclear tests in the area near Murmansk close to the border with Norway. The country was quick to condemn the tests, as any would be, but a government minister who was present in those tense times claims that more than one whisper circulated around the top echelons of the government suggesting that the biggest risk of the nuclear neighbour would be the tests angering the ancient landlords of Finnmark. It is also no coincidence that many landslides and avalanches were recorded following the explosions. They were publicly attributed to vibrations from the bombs, but conspiracy theorists argue that the new rocks were the remains of trolls, turned to stone by the nuclear flashes from across the border.

The USSR was notorious for its sealed borders, and the frontier with Norway was evidence of this. One characteristic that set it apart, however, was a wide stretch of level sand between the two countries (the brown strip by the road in the image below). Military experts will tell you that these were to detect crossings by defectors out of the Soviet Union – but troll experts think they know differently: Humans crossing could easily brush away their tracks – these were for tracking trolls coming into the USSR.

Since the end of the Cold War activity in the Finnmark area has lessened, and subsequently, says our anonymous troll expert, the trolls that have lain dormant underground and on top of mountains are moving around with more frequency. What evidence suggests this you ask? We are told when we can’t see the troll, to look at what surrounds it. And now, more than any time in the last 20 years, the Norwegian and Russian militaries surround Finnmark. A recent article in the Barents Observer reports that Norway is modernising and strengthening its border forces in the region, and Russia has recently displayed an increased presence along its side of the border, evidence by the recent satellite imagery below, that clearly shows tactical nuclear submarines moored at Zapadnaya Litsa, and the next that shows MIG bunkers near by. These mobile nuclear missile platforms are in position to guard against trolls crossing the border into Russia.

Norway’s own military has stepped up its presence in troll inhabited regions, moving its entire command centre to a large Cold War complex, deep underground in Bodo, inside the artic circle and midway between the two largest troll lands. The BBC reported on the move and even featured a video of the inside of the base. Such access, our conspiracy theorist suggest, is merely a smokescreen to deflect attention from the real use of the underground base: launching missions into the surrounding caves to eradicate the local troll population.

Another telling sign is the privatisation of a number of former Norwegian military installations. Many of these are radar stations like the one pictured below, just north of Jevnaker. Official sources tell us that the dishes use the Have Stare technology utilised by the US missile defence shield, but local employees reportedly wonder why the installations are more frequently set up to sweep across domestic terrain. Could they be looking for trolls? And who is the new private manager of these sites?

Someone who thought he knew was Erik Knatterud, who tragically died last year in a car accident. Erik was a self-proclaimed troll expert, and spent his time collecting stories and eye-witness accounts. Erik kept quiet about any kind of conspiracy, but believed in the trolls, and would provide a sympathetic ear to shocked witnesses. One of the many stories he collected concerned a brand new BMW, smashed to pieces in the icy wilderness of northern Norway. The car was destroyed, but there was no sign of a crash, no roadkill, nor any skid marks to indicate any loss of control. The driver, unscathed but in shock, was discovered nearby exclaiming: ‘He had to stomp on it, he just had to stomp on it’.

Other incidents that conspiracy theorists believe were troll related include the 1982 crash landing of a small commuter plane. Witnesses at the time said that they saw British fighter jets in the area shortly after the aircraft suffered damage to its tail and plummeted into the sea. Whether the jets were British or not, the theory that the passengers on the plane had seen something they shouldn’t have and needed to be silenced is as popular as the idea that a giant troll swatted them from the air.

When you factor in the human cost of keeping the trolls under wraps it makes for a grim picture. Our source points to an increase in ‘polar bear’ attacks on humans, and the subsequent tragic killing of innocent polar bears, just to cover up the activities of wayward trolls. How many of the attacks are real, troll or otherwise, and how many are misinformation aimed at keeping the public away is unclear, but we know that extreme attempts have been made in the past to keep the public in the dark. One such attempt, published in Weekly World News in 2000, even suggested that troll sightings were actually emperor penguins, introduced to Norway in 1936 by a naturalist.
You, like us, may at this stage still be sceptical – but our troll expert has told us where we can see trolls for ourselves – at least the remains of trolls. When subjected to intense light the trolls turn to stone and either shatter in an explosion of pebbles or remain rock for the rest of time. Look at any valley or coast in Norway, our source says, and you can see the remains of the trolls in rock formations and landslides and shingle beaches. Just pray you don’t meet one in the flesh.

The BBC has released a new trailer for the second half of Doctor Who series 6, episodes 8-13.

Doctor Who will return to BBC America on the 27th August. The BBC have yet to announce when the series will air in the UK, however it is most likely to be the same day. Plus, I don’t think they could stand another backlash after the Torchwood fiasco.

CollegeHumor are at it again and this time they’ve set their sights on A Game of Thrones: A Song of Ice and Fire. Pictures’ and Legendary Pictures’ “The Dark Knight Rises” is the epic conclusion to filmmaker Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy, Leading an all-star international cast, Oscar® winner Christian Bale (“The Fighter”) again plays the dual role of Bruce Wayne/Batman. The film also stars Anne Hathaway, as Selina Kyle; Tom Hardy, as Bane; Oscar® winner Marion Cotillard (“La Vie en Rose”), as Miranda Tate; and Joseph Gordon-Levitt, as John Blake. Returning to the main cast, Oscar® winner Michael Caine (“The Cider House Rules”) plays Alfred; Gary Oldman is Commissioner Gordon; and Oscar® winner Morgan Freeman (“Million Dollar Baby”) reprises the role of Lucius Fox. The screenplay is written by Christopher Nolan and Jonathan Nolan, story by Christopher Nolan & David S. Goyer. The film is produced by Emma Thomas, Christopher Nolan and Charles Roven, who previously teamed on “Batman Begins” and the record-breaking blockbuster “The Dark Knight.” The executive producers are Benjamin Melniker, Michael E. Uslan, Kevin De La Noy and Thomas Tull, with Jordan Goldberg serving as co-producer. The film is based upon characters appearing in comic books published by DC Comics. Batman was created by Bob Kane.

Behind the scenes, “The Dark Knight Rises” reunites the director with several of his long time collaborators, all of whom worked together on the “The Dark Knight.” The creative team includes director of photography Wally Pfister, who recently won an Oscar® for his work on Nolan’s “Inception”; production designer Nathan Crowley; editor Lee Smith; and Oscar®-winning costume designer Lindy Hemming (“Topsy-Turvy”). In addition, Paul Franklin and Chris Corbould, who both won Oscars® for the effects in “Inception,” supervised the visual and special effects, respectively. The music is composed by Oscar® winner Hans Zimmer (“The Lion King”). In helming the film, Christopher Nolan is utilizing IMAX® cameras even more extensively than he did on “The Dark Knight,” which had marked the first time ever that a major feature film was partially shot with IMAX cameras.

The locations span three continents and include the American cities of Pittsburgh, New York and Los Angeles, as well as sites in India, England and Scotland. “The Dark Knight Rises” is a presentation of Warner Bros. Pictures, in association with Legendary Pictures. Slated for release beginning July 20, 2012, the film will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.

While I enjoyed Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy, they were rather saccharine. Marc Webb’s The Amazing Spider-Man seems almost as dark and moody as Christopher Nolan’s Batman films.

Judging by the trailer it looks like Marc Webb is starting afresh, with Peter Parker being bitten by the “radioactive” spider and discovering his powers… Despite yet another reboot of a recent franchise, I’m actually excited by this darker version.

The Amazing Spider-Man is set for release 3rd July 2012 and stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Rhys Ifans, Martin Sheen, Sally Field, and Irrfan Khan. The film is directed by Marc Webb.

The first trailer for The Thing has released. Confusingly, this isn’t a remake of The Thing but a prequel to The Thing, called The Thing. Got it? Confusing naming aside, the trailer is scary as hell and looks like the fans of the original movie will like it.

Well it’s finally the day all fans of the Harry Potter franchise have been waiting for, the release of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2. We’ll be posting a few bits and pieces to get you in the mood, starting with The Story of Snape featurette. Evil or good, he’s certainly one of the favourite characters.

Marking the thirtieth anniversary of the Brixton riots of 1981, filmmaker Kibwe Tavares created the below video short Robots of Brixton.

Brixton has degenerated into a disregarded area inhabited by London’s new robot workforce – robots built and designed to carry out all of the tasks which humans are no longer inclined to do. The mechanical population of Brixton has rocketed, resulting in unplanned, cheap and quick additions to the skyline.

The film follows the trials and tribulations of young robots surviving at the sharp end of inner city life, living the predictable existence of a populous hemmed in by poverty, disillusionment and mass unemployment. When the Police invade the one space which the robots can call their own, the fierce and strained relationship between the two sides explodes into an outbreak of violence echoing that of 1981.

I barely remember the Brixton riots, but those years and with the subsequent Tottenham riots of 1986, were not the best of times in London’s modern history.

OMG! True Blood‘s “not so little Tommy Mickens” (Marshall Allan) gets his bits out for this Funny or Die skit with co-star Janina Gavankar who plays Sam’s new love interest and shapeshifter, Luna Garza. Marshall Allan takes method acting to a whole new level as he and Janina Gavankar shoot their first True Blood scene together.

The only thing I can say is DAMN YOU PIXELATIONS!!! I wonder if there’s an unedited version out there…?

The Captains – an Epix Original Documentary produced and directed by William Shatner. In The Captains, he travels the world to connect with each of the actors who have played Captains over the long life of the Star Trek franchise. Shatner recalls his own experiences in the role that made him a star by interviewing Patrick Stewart, Kate Mulgrew, Scott Bakula, Avery Brooks and Chris Pine while interweaving clips from their respective shows and movies.

A lot of people don’t like Michael Bay and his films. However if you take good look at the list of films he’s either directed or produced, you can’t deny that most of them have made a lot of money which equals to a lot of ticket sales – Miami Vice (TV series), Bad Boys, The Rock, Armageddon, Mystery Men, Coyote Ugly, Pearl Harbor, Bad Boys II, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, The Amityville Horror, The Island, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning, The Hitcher, Transformers, The Unborn, Friday the 13th, Horsemen, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, A Nightmare on Elm Street, I Am Number Four and Transformers: Dark of the Moon, all Michael Bay.

What is art? Is it defined by a stringent set of rules and regulations or can each be a master of their own medium? Complaining about the absence of gravitas in a film like Con Air is the same as looking at a work of Miro and saying “That sucks, it’s all squiggly!”. Every artist has their strengths and styles.

In other words… Terrence Malick couldn’t direct a movie about exploding robots to save his life… and if he did, it’d probably take 40 years.

So pull your head out of your ass, sit down, shut up, and eat your awesome.

The thing about critics is just that, they criticise. Whereas the normal cinema goer just wants to escape real life for a few hours and be entertained, a lot of critics hate the summer blockbuster. Yes Michael Bay films have poor character, plot and script development, but you can’t deny the beautiful visuals and CGI he uses…

Warner Bros has released the second Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 featurette which explains what the Horcuxes are and why Harry, Ron and Hermione needs to find and destroy them. Again, it offers up new footage not seen before.
