He replies to her by saying something to the affect of "...Don't ask don't tell..." which as you may or may not know is the official stance for gay military personnel in the United States. He also goes on to talk about how normally his lifestyle is untrusted but in the "Odd Man Out Hypothesis" being the un-attached, un-emotional male he's trusted with everyones lives.
