Will Jolie Wanted 2 return? Whedon not enthused by Buffy reboot and Weaving, McKellen and Serkis revisit Middle Earth and more in our cult/sci-fi and horror round up.
Angelina Jolie’s character Wanted 2
Director Timur Bekmambetov recently spoke to RIA Novosti and said that work on Wanted 2 will begin next month, and that despite shooting herself through the cranium in the first film, Angelina Jolie’s character may be returning:
“In July we will start preparation for the film. I think in the late autumn or winter shooting will be performed” – Mr. Bekmambetov said to RIA Novosti. “The shooting will take place in America, India and Russia” – added he.
“As for the character played by Kostya Khabenskiy, we’ll think about it. We might possibly resurrect him as well” – the film director said.
Thing is, just because the character is coming back, doesn’t mean Oscar winning actress Angelina Jolie is…
Joss Whedon not involved in new Buffy movie
If that’s the case, what’s the point? I could live without the original TV cast members, just about, but why fuck about with the Buffyverse canon? Joss Whedon it’s seems was not enthused either but is being more gentlemanly about it than me.
“I believe [the producers] did ultimately reach out to my agent after the news broke,” Whedon says. “I think that’s something better left untouched by me. So, I wish them luck.”
Zombieland photos
All the sites linked to below have photos taken from the new Zom-Com movie Zombieland. Sounds like a US rip-off inspired version of Shaun of the Dead.

Jesse Eisenberg plays Columbus, a teenage who has made a habit of running from what scares him. Tallahassee (Woody Harrelson) doesn’t have fears. If he did, he’d kick their ever-living ass. In a world overrun by zombies, these two are perfectly evolved survivors. But now, they’re about to stare down the most terrifying prospect of all: each other. The film also stars Emma Stone (Superbad) and Abigail Breslin (Little Miss Sunshine).

McKellen, Weaving and Serkis return to Middle Earth
The Hobbit director Guillermo del Toro has revealed that Hugo Weaving, who played Elrond in Peter Jackson’s Lord Of The Rings trilogy, has been cast in the proquel movie. Speaking on Radio 5 to Simon Mayo he said that Andy Serkis, Ian McKellen and Weaving would be returning “…as the roles they originated in the trilogy.” Sirkis and McKellen had already been confirmed, but this is the first definite mention of Weaving’s involvement.
The first of the two Hobbit films is scheduled to be released in December of 2011 followed by the second in December of 2012.

David Hayter writes Deadworld
David Hayter is producing an adaptation of the comic series Deadworld. Co-created by Gary Reed, the comic’s plotline finds the world in the typical post-apocalyptic, undead-infested state. Instead of focusing on the human survivors, it zeroes in on King Zombie, a Harley-gunning corpse who holds a grudge against the remaining humans who made him an outcast.
Terminator 5 to be set in London?
Whether a sequel will actually happen given the poor reviews for Terminator Salvation, rumours are it’ll be set in present day London. Back in April, Film Journal ran their Terminator Salvation promo interview. Here’s McG on his plans for a follow up:
I strongly suspect the next movie is going to take place in a 2011. John Connor is going to travel back in time and he’s going to have to galvanize the militaries of the world for an impending Skynet invasion. They’ve figured out time travel to the degree where they can send more than one naked entity. So you’re going to have hunter killers and transports and harvesters and everything arriving in our time and Connor fighting back with conventional military warfare, which I think is going to be fucking awesome.
BTW, we saw the film last week and I think Drew was more excited by it than I was. Guess I like the James Cameron films too much to have really embraced McG’s Salvation. That and Christian Bale’s acting was shit!
Saw VI VII VIII and beyond
Tobin Bell, Saw’s now deceased John Kramer, aka Jigsaw, has confirmed that the trap-happy franchise will continue until at least part eight, as long as the audience remains faithful.
“I look forward to filling out the other pieces of the puzzle,” says the Jigsaw killer, in an interview with horror site Bloody Disgusting. “There’s some pieces that people still haven’t seen.”
