Dancing zombies set world record

A new world record for dancing zombies has been set in Nottingham.

The official count put the number of people performing Michael Jackson’s Thriller dance at 1,227 – 199 more than the previous record.

Organisers of an annual games festival had put out an appeal for volunteers to fill the Old Market Square and provided costumes, make-up and choreography.

The dancing began at 1700 BST but it took officials from Guinness half-an-hour to verify the result.

The old record had been set in Monroeville, Pennsylvania, US, on 28 October 2007.

Margaret Robinson, who helped arrange the event, said: “It has been fantastic, we have had a huge turnout, far better than we expected, you can’t move for dancing zombies.

“We are all zombies tonight, we are all undead, I am covered in blood – very happy.”

In March the city also claimed the record for massed Robin Hoods when 1,119 costumed people gathered at the castle.
