David Tennant joins Fright Night remake

David Tennant and Christopher Mintz-Plasse have joined the cast of Craig Gillespie’s remake of Fright Night.

Tennant and Mintz-Plasse join Anton Yelchin as Charlie, a teen convinced that his new neighbour, played by Colin Farrell is a vampire. Toni Collette is the Charlie’s disbelieving mother, who falls for the vampire’s charm.

David Tennant plays Las Vegas ‘Master of Illusion’ Peter Vincent, whose show revolves around horror-movie imagery. The character in the original movie was played by Roddy McDowall as the host of a late-night horror show. In the remake, Vincent claims to be a vampire expert, but when fan Charlie turns to him for assistance, he’s less than helpful.

Christopher Mintz-Plasse is playing comic-book loving punk Evil Ed, Anton Yelchin’s friend who feels slighted that Charlie has left his nerdy past behind and thus joins the vampire’s coven.

Former Doctor Who actor David Tennant, who was replaced by Matt Smith as the Time Lord, will be making his first major foray into US film.

Work on the movie is due to start next month.
