Fox readying U.S. version of ‘Torchwood’

The Hollywood Reporter has just broken the news that Fox Television is developing a US version of the Doctor Who spin-off series Torchwood.

The original series creator Russell Davies is writing the script in association with BBC Worldwide Productions. The original producing team that produced Torchwood is on board. In addition to Davies, exec producers include Davies’ producing partner Julie Gardner (former head of drama at BBC Wales for the show’s first season) and Jane Tranter (another BBC vet, now exec VP programming and production at BBC Worldwide Prods. in the U.S.).

Some of the current UK cast, most likely John Barrowman, may feature in the US pilot if Fox gives the project the thumbs up.

How this will affect the UK production is not yet know.

In my own opinion, Torchwood proved itself to be a strong sci-fi TV series, blurring the lines between sexuality and species. The last episodes of series two resulted in a shocking ending and the third mini series, The Children of Earth could be argued to surpass recent offerings of Doctor Who…
