Sanctuary returns to UK TV

Sanctuary returns to the UK for its third season outing and I for one is quite happy that it’s back. With a major character killed off and the unleashing of one of the most powerful of Abnormals, Sanctuary ended its second run on quite the cliffhanger.

Now, UKTV’s Watch (Sky 109, Virgin Media 124) are to exclusively air the third series of sci-fi phenomenon Sanctuary, every Tuesday at 9pm from October 19th. Watch a sneak peek of of what’s to come below.

Although dismissed as monstrous figments of our imaginations and the stuff of our childhood nightmares, the world is full of mythical creatures (Vampires, Werewolves etc..) and mutants, the Sanctuary has the spectacular proof that they are indeed real.

Dr. Helen Magnus (Amanda Tapping), a 158 year-old English scientist, and her team of experts run an organisation known as The Sanctuary that seeks out non-human intelligent creatures, known as Abnormals, and tries to help and learn from them. Magnus tries to protect these things that most people would consider monsters and the Sanctuary serves as a safe haven for these “Abnormals” .

However the team also has to find, contain and sometimes destroy the more dangerous ones.

Sanctuary stars Amanda Tapping as Dr. Helen Magnus (Stargate SG-1), Robin Dunne as Dr. Will Zimmerman (Dawson’s Creek), Emilie Ullerup as Ashley (jPod), Christopher Heyerdahl as the sinister John Druitt (Stargate Atlantis), Ryan Robbins as Henry Foss (Battlestar Galactica) and Agam Darshi as Kate Freelander (Stargate Atlantis).

Braving new worlds in each episode is just the start for Sanctuary. The series is also proudly credited for pioneering new techniques and technology in television production.

Sanctuary is one of the only series to shoot extensively on green screen using extraordinary visual effects and virtual sets. The series was also the first in North America to shoot with the new RED camera – a digital system that captures images at four times the resolution of a high definition camera, resulting in a look that is unmatched on television.

Helmed by some of the innovative talents behind Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis, the series creative team includes executive producer, writer and creator Damian Kindler; executive producer and lead actor Amanda Tapping; and executive producer and director Martin Wood. In addition, Sam Egan (Jeremiah, The Outer Limits) serves as executive producer and writer along with John Smith (Stargate SG-1, Stargate Atlantis) and Keith Beedie as executive producers.
